I was born in 1962,( wow! that was a long time ago!!!!) in the county Indian hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico to a mother of various artistic inclinations and a father who enjoyed a career as a “B” movie character actor/writer,(oh I how miss him so) I found my self (through no fault of my own) growing up in the television and film industry, to which I inevitably fell into. Since 1980 I have worked as a costume supervisor on numerous commercials, films and television shows.
As for the subject matter of my work, I have always been interested in the face & figure . My most favorite toy when I was a kid was Mr. Potato Head.....& I think he is STILL my favorite toy. I also use to think that God was a little kid, and that we were little clay people that he would take out every morning and play with......There is still a part of me that thinks this might be true. So it is interesting to me that anything that I ever made ,or drew as a child had to do with faces and people. Figurative objects somehow hold a special magic for me. Although technically inanimate, they are typically narrative, & therefore take on a life of thier own. I tend to bestow them with iconic honor & love to imagine little stories about their existence. They tell me their secrets & teach me many things.
For the past couple of years the catalystic ideas for my work seems to becoming more and more psychologically driven . Just the "idea" of the human mind and it’s many facets supply me with endless amounts of inspiration and abundant humor........ Mostly I am just making fun of myself,..... and you.....and your mom......and your cousin Joe, and trying to find a way to not be so crazy. It keeps me amused and there are times when I think I have actually figured it out...( "IT" being life.....the universe....and everything......) though I’m probably just following my own subconscious( that sneaky little bastard!!) down a very long dark rabbit hole. God, how I really hope there is something down there!
